EZ KICKSTAND COMES TO THE RESCUE
After losing part of my leg and becoming Below The Knee Amputee I was determined to ride again on two wheels. After many surgery revisions and year of healing I purchased my 2019 Street Glide. I immediately had two issues once I figured out I could hold it up and sit on it somewhat comfortably.
The first issue was my prosthetic socket would not allow me to raise and bend my leg back far enough to be able to shift. That was solved with a Pingle Electric Shifter which worked perfectly for me.
The second issue was raising the kickstand once it was down. Without an ankle I could not tow my foot down to raise it up. I would bend over and use a long zip tie in a loop to catch the end and pull it up. This was not the safest idea, but it worked, and I was determined. I finally decided after nearly falling over a few times that I would design something to do this as I didn’t want to go with the electric stands and there were no other options that I could find.
Hence the EZ KICKSTAND was born. It is a mechanical option that uses push pull cable that attaches to your kickstand.
The installation is straight forward with basic mechanic tools, motorcycle jack, and a drill.
Remove the left rear passenger foot peg mount and install bracket behind the foot peg mount with existing hardware as shown.
Remove jiffystand and drill #10 (.190) clearance hole through the jiffystand.
Locate hole 8” from bottom of jiffystand, aproximately ½” from tab.
Use provided hardware to secure heim joint to the jiffystand.
Fasten opposite end of cable to passenger peg bracket and clamp small l-bracket to frame using provided hose clamps. Be sure to locate at angle approximately as shown.
Tighten cable to l-bracket as shown, adjust clamp to slight angle as shown if necessary. Adjust heim joint so that jiffystand lifts and lowers all the way.
Use the provided zip ties to secure push/pull cable to the radius of the motorcycle frame.
Check to make sure all fasteners are secured.
Note: The angle at the bottom bracket will increase and decrease the pressure needed to push jiffystand down. The design intent was to lift jiffystand although it can be used to lower it.
I’ve used my EZ KICKSTAND setup now for thousands of miles over the years. It has been another life saver for me. I’ve also learned that people with shorter legs love it as well because they also cannot reach the lip of the jiffystand to kick it up. The stand does not need to be raised or lowered with the cable. The handle is not in the way of my passengers either. I’m enjoying my wind on two wheels which has been a passion for life.
