STATISTICS

Accident Scene Management was started in 1996 to reduce injuries and fatalities to motorcyclist through first responder education. This is the critical time to keep the motorcyclist alive until the ambulance and professional help like EMTs arrive.

Approximately 236 motorcycle crashes result in injuries every dar in the United States, with an average o about 86,000 total injuries from crashes per year.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), around 56 percent of all motorcycle crashes occur on urban roadways, with the majority of those accidents taking place at intersections.

Unfortunately, riders involved in a collision with another vehicle are almost twenty-seven times as likely to die and eight times more likely to be injured, than the occupants and driver of the vehicle.

We believe if someone with the ASM training is on the scene injuries can be stabilized and lives saved.

HOW WE STARTED

When Dale was breaking in his new Street Glide in September 2018, he decided to cruise up the interstate and, on the way, back from Titusville took the scenic way home which changed the course of life drastically. While stopped at a traffic light he made himself aware of his surroundings but, after scanning traffic once getting the green light, he proceeded through the intersection. A driver that was stopped at the intersection to make a left turn not paying attention had made a sudden move and drove at Dale and oncoming cars. Dale seeing the car come at him at the last moment tried to get his leg out of the way of impact and was almost successful. His lower leg and foot was caught pinned as he was collided bouncing him around like a rag doll instead of ejecting him off the motorcycle. His lower left leg was crushed and severed at the scene, left hip ball and socket also crushed. A nurse from Michigan luckily was right behind him in traffic and jumped out and immediately stabilized him, saving his life. 5 surgeries during a month in the hospital and rehab with another 3 surgeries over the next 2 1/2 years. Dale was thankful to be able to get back on two wheels after a year with the help of electric shifter and assisted kick stand that he designed. The intersection was changed with no more yields, without a doubt saving somebody from death in the future. This occurrence spawned Bilker Lives Matter and also the support and promotion of ASM training.
